Reshay’s Story
“With God’s strength and the support of this community, I found joy and a future again.”
When Reshay lost her home in June 2023, she was working two jobs and doing her best to provide for her young children. Homelessness forced her children to stay with her mother while Reshay bounced between hotels and a friend’s car. Eventually, she couldn’t keep up with work, lost her jobs, and fell into despair. Desperate and alone, she turned to drugs to numb the pain. When a friend suggested Our Daily Bread, Reshay arrived scared and uncertain. She was greeted by our Shelter Director who told her, “This is the first day of the rest of your life.” Those words became a turning point.
At Our Daily Bread, Reshay found more than just shelter; she found a community. Encouraged by another guest in our Ready for Work Training Program, she committed to turning her life around. She achieved sobriety, joined the Ready for Work Training Program, and worked tirelessly to rebuild her life. Through the Program, Reshay moved into transitional housing, attended counseling, and learned budgeting and life skills. She found strength in our staff who encouraged her. Despite missing milestones, like her child’s fourth birthday, Reshay remained focused on her goal: reuniting with her children. With the stability and support provided, Reshay returned to school to complete her bachelor’s degree. Eventually, she found permanent housing and a full-time job with the City of Denton. Today, she’s reunited with her children and thriving. “Everything I needed was at Our Daily Bread,” Reshay reflects. “No one could do the work for me, but these people believed in me when others had given up.”
